Akiba Solutions Ltd is a new, independently funded development company. We design and build consumer software where privacy and security are decided first, and everything else is decided around them.
We would rather do a small number of things properly than a large number of things quickly. Akiba Pocket Money is the first, and the standards we set on it are meant to carry to everything that follows.
A pocket money and chores app for families, built so that children learn how money works and parents keep full visibility. Balances come from an append-only ledger rather than an editable number, family photos are encrypted on the device before they are uploaded, and we hold no bank connection and no custody of anyone's money.
These are the rules our own work is reviewed against, written down so they can be held against us rather than left as good intentions.
We collect the least we can rather than the most we could. Our family app asks for no child email address, no phone number, no exact date of birth, no address and no location, because none of those are needed to do the job.
Every change is reviewed as a security and privacy change before it is reviewed as a feature. Sensitive data is isolated per family at the database level as well as in the application, so one mistake is not enough to cross a boundary.
Where we handle personal media, it is encrypted on the device before it leaves it, and our own servers cannot read it. That is a design constraint we accept permanently, not a feature we might trade away later.
We write software the next person can safely change: one clear owner for each behaviour, documented decisions, and automated checks that fail loudly rather than degrade quietly.
We do not describe something as working until it has been shown to work on the surface it ships on. Where we have not proved something yet, we say so plainly.
A new company can either overstate what it has or describe it accurately. We would rather be trusted on the second visit, so nothing on this site is a product we have not built.
Akiba Solutions Ltd is a United Kingdom software company formed to build and operate our own consumer products rather than to take on client work. We are small and early, and we think that is the right time to set the engineering and privacy standards a company is stuck with later.
Our first product came out of an ordinary domestic problem — teaching children the value of money — and the discovery that most of the software aimed at it wanted far more data about a child than the job required. We are building the version that does not.
